If you were present for our most recent meeting, you were lucky enough to hear a presentation given by Regan Kiembock, the Child Nutrition Program Director for the Southampton Public Schools. Regan is passionate about keeping our children well fed and healthy: she was born and raised in the Southampton School system, as were her own children. For those of your from the area, you may already recognize how improved our school nutrition program has become from what it was in the past. We are not done improving: food service employees are receiving constant training in terms of ways to incorporate healthy ingredients that children will eat (i.e beans in taco meat), smoothie machines are about to make their debut at the schools, and they are hoping to institute a Breakfast in the Classroom Program! Although Regan is extremely busy working on improvements, she welcomes questions from parents. She is willing to listen and address concerns and has even been known to put a note on your child's meal profile to prevent them from eating pizza on a daily basis. Finally, she is looking for volunteer parents to form an elementary school wellness committee.
